        PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS...

Do you have a clear sense of purpose? a clear intention? a firm commitment? These
attributes will attract the greatest rewards.

Since learning to play a musical instrument is a considerable investment in both time
and money, it will be helpful to give it lots of thought before proceeding. (I am happy
to provide a free consultation to answer any questions or discuss any concerns you may
        have.)

All tuition is offered irrespective of age or experience.

        PIANO...

For practicing at home, the student should have access to an
acoustic piano with fully weighted keys, or to an electronic
piano with a touch-sensitive response. (Electronic keyboards
fall short of the specifications necessary for learning pianoforte
        technique.)

Initial instruction follows a series of course tutors provided at no cost. (These have
proved particularly suitable for younger children as progress is managed at a speed that
prevents them from becoming overawed by the complexity of the subject.)

At an appropriate stage in their study, students may elect to participate in the Grade
Examinations set by The Associated Board Of The Royal Schools Of Music. These
examinations have much to commend them as milestones along the road to musical
accomplishment and as a vehicle to a career in music, whether in teaching or
        performance.

Tuition is offered on a weekly basis and costs £12.50 per half-hour lesson.

                                            ACCORDION...

Students may aspire to play traditional Scottish music. They
may also elect to explore the potential of the instrument for
many other musical styles and traditions, from the Musette of
the Parisienne Left bank to the expressive Latin-American
                                            Tangos of Rio de Janeiro.

The SEDLON ACCORDION METHOD tutor is used as a valuable
resource from which different styles and techniques may be
                                            studied.

Students should have their own accordion before commencing lessons. (I am always
happy to offer free advice on the suitability of different instruments.)

Tuition is offered on a weekly basis and costs £12.50 per half-hour lesson.

        THEORY OF MUSIC...

A study of the Theory of Music complements a practical study of any musical
        instrument.

        It enables the student to...
develop his ability to read and write music
develop her analytical and creative skills
  communicate musical ideas to others
recreate the composer’s intentions more accurately
understand better what is being played

As a measure of the importance with which this subject is held by The Associated Board
Of The Royal Schools Of Music, students must acquire a pass at Grade Five level in
Theory Of Music before proceeding beyond Grade Five practical Pianoforte.

Tuition is offered on a weekly basis and costs £12.50 per half-hour lesson.

        MY MUSIC PORTFOLIO...

I studied pianoforte at The Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama in Glasgow, in
        the early 1960s.

I have been teaching piano and accordion privately since 1987, following a period of
more than twenty years of performance in small ensembles and bands.

For a time in the 1990s I became involved, through the Leisure and Recreation
Department of Ross and Cromarty District Council, with teaching accordion at the
start of what has now become the annual Feis Ross celebrations of traditional
        Scottish music.
